Today, we gather to honor and celebrate our grandmother who touched the hearts of everyone and supported the needs of many. She was an extraordinary woman who truly lived a long and full life. Two of you know her as mom, some sister, aunt, some as cousin, but to me and her 8 grandkids and 24 great-grandchildren she was our WeezyBaby. She was the glue that held our family together. For those who don’t know me, I am Jan, Louise’s granddaughter. Louise Wattson was born in North Carolina on August 20, 1932. She left us Oct 17th, 2024 at the age of 92. She was blessed to have 13 siblings born to Etta and Charlie Carter. She is survived by her brother, Daniel Carter, and sisters, Mable Cornick, Anniebell Crockett and Rosette Whitehead. Grandma had 3 children: Etta, Vivian, and Amos. She was a proud woman, a hardworking woman who never asked for or accepted a handout. Born in a time when opportunities were limited, she never let anything stand in her way. Anyone who knew Weezy knew she wasn’t to be played with. Her presence commanded respect. She stayed strong to the very end. As we are gathered here, I know we are all thankful for all the lessons she left us with. Losing a loved one is one of the most difficult things a person can go through; so much more when it is your parent. Mom, Uncle Amos, we got you! Although she didn’t birth them, she raised my cousins Shannon, Dawn, and Demetrius, so sadly I know it feels like you are losing a mother as well, but we got each other. No words can express what we are feeling right now and only time will help us accept the fact that the matriarch of the family is no longer physically here with us, but she will stay forever in our hearts. As I close out, I know grandma cherished her spa treatments from Gina, her long conversations with Jun, her church services with Jill and her crochet talks with Avis. I know he doesn’t want to be spotlighted, but our family collectively wants to thank our cousin, her grandson, Jimmy, for stepping up in a big way to honor his grandma. In addition, we would like to give a special thank you to her great-granddaughters, Kendra Wattson and Kyla Clarke for standing side by side with her daughter, Etta, in her caretaking in her final days. In closing, we would like to acknowledge our family that came in from out of state and appreciate you all showing up in a big way for Grandma. As all her grandkids could attest, the stories were limitless with love and fond memories.
