Mother Lula Pearl Joseph was born April 15, 1941 in Columbus, Georgia. She is one of six children born to the late James and Lizzie Rozier. On Friday, October 20, 2023 Mother Lula answered the call of the Master and entered into eternal rest, predeceased by her mother, father, her husband of 32 years Thomas Joseph and 4 siblings.
Mother Lula attended Columbus Public Schools, however she received her State Certification for Geriatric Nursing Assistant with Chesapeake Public Schools Adult Education Program, April 18, 1983. She also received a certificate of completion in Apparel Production Laboratory at Norfolk State University, December 6, 1991. She was a nurse for 10 years at the previous Lake Taylor City Hospital, Norfolk, VA. While serving in her nursing career at Practical Care, she received Nurse Aid of the Month in 1988.
Mother Lula was raised in the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Columbus, GA and continued to serve after moving to Virginia at New Union Chapel AME for over 45 years. Mother Lula was a Missionary, Officer and appointed on the Finance Committee May 2008. She joined City of Life Worship Center in June 2021, under the divine leadership of Pastor Monty White.
Mother Lula was a loving and devoted family woman who enjoyed spending time with her family. She especially loved to help others. She was a life member for life of the Veterans Women’s Auxiliary Chapter 4 Samaritan House. She also loved to cook, complete word search puzzles and paint furniture.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory: a loving, daughter, Lisa Burrus; 2 Goddaughters, Raietta Johnson and Angela Winters 3 Grandchildren, Taheinish Palka, Kelly Goodman, and Jessica Goodman; 10 great-grandchildren, 1 sister Elizabeth Henley of Columbus, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
