On Sunday, April 26,2020 Mrs. Marian E. Sample affectionately known as “Sister, Marian, Grand mom, Grandma Marian or Granny Pany”, departed this life to receive her eternal reward. She was born to the late Onedia and Dory Sample Sr. She received her education from Accomack County, VA Public Schools. She was very proud crab picker for Nanuda Seafood Company, Hacksneck, VA, her crabmeat could be found in some of the Maryland and Eastern Shore VA finest Restaurants.

Marian was married to Obediah Sample Jr who celebrated sixty -two years of marriage and was blessed with five (5) children-, Donna Smith Norfolk VA, Greta Sample Harborton VA,  Darrell Sample of Woodbridge VA and Pastor Scott Sample Painter VA. Proceeded in death by her son the late Maurice Sample (Rochelle)of Baltimore MD.  Daughters- in -law’ Annette, Carolyn and Karen Sample and a son-in law Thomas L. Smith.

Her Spiritual walk with Christ began at early age while attending Mt Olive Baptist Church, Hacksneck, VA everywhere she would go she would support the ministry spreading the Gospel and in which she held active stewardship as the Church Secretary and Deaconess of New Mt Olive Baptist Church Hacksneck, VA.

“Sister” cherished her love with an Uncle John West (Dianne) Bear Delaware, an Aunt Margaret Lowther Exmore VA, her sibling’s, a loving sister Terry Sample, Painter VA, proud brothers, Dory Sample Jr (Jeanette) Pungoteague VA, Dorice Sample (Edmonia) Melfa, VA and the late Jerry Sample,  (Nellie ) Pungoteague VA.  “Marian” Loving Sister-in laws,  Emma Pitts Eastern MD, Lula Bailey Pungoteague VA, Edith Hack (Jerome) Painter VA, Jackie Borden (Bobby) Savageville VA, Whilemenia Parker Stafford VA, Vanessa Bailey Hacksneck VA,  Alberta Hamilton-Hodges New York, Rochelle Hamilton New York, Brother in laws  Carl Washington, David Washington and Thomas Washington New York; Joe Sample (Rosemary) Salisbury, MD and the Late James Sample (Theresa) Accomac VA., Irvin Sample North Carolina, William Sample New York,  George Albert Washington, Donald Washington New York and Charles Washington Raleigh North Carolina preceded her in death. 

Marian was not only a devoted Wife and Mother, her grandchildren Natalie (Paul), Demont, Lemont, Candice (Akiel), Shawn, Sharnetta (Vandell), Tina, Darrell and Rachel (Wendell) loved “Grandma Marian” as much. Kwame-her youngest grandson became very supported and assisted his “Granny-Pany” daily with shopping, bill paying and medical appointments.  She had twelve great-grand children and 1 great-great grandchild. Everyone was special, she reminded them-to say their prayers and Trust God. No matter the season she was always offering them a blanket for comfort or just to stay warm, this will be cherished in their hearts.

She leaves with joyous memories to a host of relatives especially her nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. “Aunt Marian”, “Ms. Marian” was meek, quiet and passionate to all who was graced by her presence. Her courage and strength will forever be remembered in the hearts of all who loved her. “A Heart of Gold” is now with our Heavenly Father.
