Mario Cade Obituary

Mario Ray Cade, 77, of Norfolk, Va left this earthly life January 11, 2024. He was born in Elberton, Ga on October 2, 1946.  They resided in Portsmouth, VA and later moved to Norfolk, VA where he attended public school (Lindenwood Elementary, Ruffner Middle and graduated from the old Booker T. Washington High School 1965.

A lover of music, he sang in several local groups with friends over the years. As he got older, his love for music never faltered. After hearing Amos at a retirement service, he jumped at the chance to sing again and he became an original member of the Angelic Choraleers (1981-1987) under the direction of Amos l. Davis.  He was a faithful member attending as many as 5 services in a Sunday.

Mario’s love for church continued and he did not like missing a Sunday. He would even get his clothes together on Friday just to make sure he had everything ready for Sunday lol.

He became an electrician apprentice at the NNSY in 1967. Mario worked there for 3 years on ships until he decided that he didn’t want to work on ships for the rest of his career. He decided to switch to industrial electricity, where he learned how to wire buildings and because he got tired of hitting his head when he stood up on the ship. He worked there for 3 more before transferring to NOB Norfolk. He met many top ranking admirals like Colin Powell when he was working there and found him to be a very honorable, fair man. He retired from NOB Norfolk in 2001.

He is preceded in death by parents James H. Cade, Sr., and mother, Daisy P. Cade; a sister, Jessie Jones; and 2 brothers, James, Jr. and Clarence.

Leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 57 years, Juanita; a son, Mario, Jr. “Rocky”; a daughter Michelle; a brother, Harvey of Edwood, MD; 4 grandsons, Luis and Iran Carrillo, Dewayne and Tariq Peterson; and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews. Special thanks to some of my spiritual daughters: Carrie Peterson, Dawn Hinnant, Katrina Goodhope, and Veronica Mabel for being there for us throughout this trying time...we love you.
