Marvin Hines, a comedian at heart with a communicable laugh that could brighten the darkest days, peacefully transitioned from this life on March 28, 2025, at the Rosemont Rehab and Rehabilitation Center. Born on June 22, 1948, in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, Marvin grew up with a deep sense of family, faith, and perseverance instilled by his loving parents, the late James Sr. and Laura Bell Hines.
A proud Norview High School graduate of the Class of 1968, Marvin was known for his humor and ability to turn the simplest moments into hilarious memories. He was a man of indefatigable work ethic, dedicating many years to the Economy Warehouse in Norfolk, Virginia, where he retired. While there, he greeted customers with a funny joke and an easygoing charm. Later, alongside his brother James, he co-founded M&J Lawn Maintenance, building a legacy of hard work, fidelity, landscaping design, a sense of community, family love, and commitment.
Marvin was a devoted husband to the late Terry (Johnson) Hines and an affectionate dad to Sonya and Dee (daughter and son). Together, they shared a love that transcended time. Marvin was preceded in death by his brother, James "Jimmy" Hines Jr.; his nephew, Cornelius "Que" Strange Jr.; and his loving parents. Though he left this world just shy of his 77th birthday, his presence remains alive in the hearts of those who knew him.
He leaves behind a family bound by devotion and cherished memories—three devoted sisters, Laura Johnson (Earl), Elizabeth Hart, and Ruby Strange; a caring sister-in-law, Joyce Hines (deceased—James Jr.); and a legacy carried forward by six nieces, six nephews, and an extended family of cousins and dear friends who will forever possess memories of him in their hearts.
Marvin's life was one of quiet resilience, unwavering humor, and family devotion that knew no bounds. As we bid farewell, we do so with gratitude for the moments shared and the laughter he left behind. May his soul find eternal peace, and may we continue to honor his memory through laughter and family bonds.
