Mary McLean Obituary

Mary W. McLean departed this life June 6, 2023.  She was born February 12, 1930, in Indianapolis, Indiana.  She was the youngest of four siblings born to the late Curtis and Lena Wilson.

She was educated in the Public Schools of Indiana.  She was a graduate of Knoxville College in Knoxville, TN.

Mary teaching career began in Elizabeth City  Public Schools. Mary was an educator for 35 years.  She taught English, music and retired as a 5th grade teacher at Jacox Elementary School, Norfolk Public Schools.

Mary was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ of Portsmouth, Virginia, where she served as a Deaconess and formally Director of the Youth Choir.  She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Omicron Pi Omega Chesapeake, VA and Delicados Inc. Chesapeake Chapter Social and Civic Club for over 52 years.

She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence W. McLean, sister Imogene W. Gaines, three brothers Earl, Harold and Kenneth Wilson.  She is survived by special adopted daughter/caregiver  Sandra Hayes-Snead(Ali) of Chesapeake, VA, niece Carolyn Hill (Jim) of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan,  and special grandchild Jamika M. Baltrop  of Virginia Beach and special student/friend Regina Williams of Norfolk, VA, and other family and friends.
