God has called home one of his soldiers, and his name was Maurice Collins Mitchell.
Maurice, the youngest son of Rona and David Mitchell Sr, has fulfilled his earthly assignment.
Maurice C. Mitchell, affectionately known as “Crab”, transitioned from his earthly body on Monday, November 22, 2021. He attended Jacox Junior High School, graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, and was a member of Assembly of the Saints Church II.
He followed in two of his older brother’s footsteps by enlisting in the United States Army and was trusted with many responsibilities that involved great skill sets and knowledge. He worked for Norfolk Naval Shipyard for many years, advancing in several positions, before retiring. Maurice was a person who found his greatest joy as a dad and granddad. He loved hearing his youngest grandson, Jr, call him grand-da. He loved to go crabbing and was always willing to help those in need.
He was preceded in death by his son, Shay, his daughter, Chana, his parents, Rona and David Mitchell, Sr., his grandmother, Elnora Collins-Emmanuel, his uncle, Elijah Collins, four brothers, Herman E. Mitchell (Jeanette), David Mitchell Jr., Moses N. Mitchell, and Daniel E. Mitchell (Eulynda).
Blessed to cherish his memory are his daughters, Tanya (Antwan)and Sharneice, sons, Montel and Dashawn, son-in-law, Fortunato Sr, grandsons, Fortunato Jr, Darius (Shadae), Greg, Amarion, Javion, and Ky’ron, granddaughters, Myesha, De’aja, Khamiyah, and Lazyah, great grand kids, Kayceon, Cree, Drew, Josiah, and Khloe, goddaughter, Breana ,his sisters, Audrey M. Shands, Bernadine R. Marshall, and Linda D. Mitchell, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and his best friend, Anthony “Skip” Barnhill.
