On December 8, 2023, Melvin Jackson passed away in his home in Marietta, GA. He was born on February 10, 1956, in Memphis, TN, and was raised in Chicago, IL. Known to his friends as "Jack", Melvin was a beloved father, brother and friend who lived a fruitful, productive and honorable life.
Melvin's life journey began when his family relocated from Memphis to Chicago when he was just three months old. He graduated from Chicago Vocational High School, where he formed lifelong friendships. Melvin felt a calling to serve in the United States Armed Forces and wasted no time enlisting. He proudly served in both the United States Navy and later the United States Air Force.
During his time in the Navy, Melvin met and married Carolyn Douglas. They made their home in Virginia, where he was stationed at HM16 Squadron at NOB in Norfolk, VA. Together, they welcomed twins, a daughter named Kortney, and a son named Korey. Later, they were blessed with another son, Jhaimesen. Melvin later left the Navy and began a successful career with the United States Postal Service.
Life took an unexpected turn, and Melvin faced a severe health challenge that forced him to leave the post office. However, years later he overcame this obstacle and decided to enlist in the Air Force. After he retired from the military, Melvin decided to permanently relocate to the Atlanta, Georgia area. He enjoyed the company of his close-knit group of friends who had settled in the area.
Melvin was preceded in death by his son, Korey J. Jackson, his father, John Jackson Sr., his mother, Delores Jackson, and his brother, John Jackson Jr. Melvin is survived by his son, Jhaimesen D. Jackson, and his daughter, Kortney J. Jackson of Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by his sisters, Betty Matlock of Lansing IL, Shirley Jackson, and Susan Jackson of Chicago IL, as well as his brothers, Maurice Jackson of Calumet Park IL, Terry Jackson, Anthony Jackson, and Dale Jackson of Minneapolis, MN. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Mary Jackson of Park Forest IL, and Megan "Carol" Jackson of Calumet Park IL, along with nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
