Our beloved Melvin Rudolph Pinkney "Cooki", Peacefully transitioned his earthly life to be eternally present with The Lord on Saturday, August 13,2022 @ 2:11pm. Melvin was born on September 9th, 1952 in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Mr. and Mrs. James and Viola Pinkney. He was #6 of 8 children. Melvin was given the nickname,"Cooki", by his grandmother Mary Turner, because she said he loved cookies!
In his early years, Melvin was educated in the Norfolk Public Schools system, graduating in 1971 from Lake Taylor High School and soon after, wanting to see the world, he enlisted into the United States Navy where he served for 16years. Later he became employed by STHL Corporation and retired after 10years.
Melvin was a fun, loving and giving person who loved to be around family. He always remembered birthdays and would make sure you knew he was thinking of you. Cooki was a GREAT father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, brother, and babysitter. Cooki was a strong male figure in a family full of women and a good listener( but be ready for the answer)!! Cooki will be remembered by his family and friends as someone who would try to help you whenever you needed him and by his distinguished
laugh and beautiful smile. Cooki accepted THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AS HIS LORD AND SAVIOR and loved to talk about the Bible and world news, listen to music, sharply dress, and have family gatherings where he thought he was The Grill Master, LOL.
Melvin was preceded in death by his brother James Pinkney and sisters Linda Mapson, Brenda Winsted, Iris Short, and Constance Williams. He leaves to cherish his loving memories to his 3 daughters Levon Pinkney, Felicia Hall and Melody Hall, 1 son Sean Olds, 3 grandchildren Jakale Pinkney, Tationna Simon, and Leshay Foreman, 2 sisters Essie Davis Wilson and Barbara Clark and his forever love Ms. Phyllis Hall. In addition, he will be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
