Mona Tompkins went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 27, 2024. She was born in Norfolk, VA on January 26, 1965 to Michael and Barbara Waff.
“Mo,” as she was affectionately called, was known for her unwavering love and dedication to her family and friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
A proud graduate of Norfolk Public Schools, Mona furthered her education with administrative courses at Norfolk Skills Center and earned certification as a Paralegal Assistant through Tidewater Community College. She dedicated her professional life to the Law Office of Samuel White, where she worked until her health declined.
Mona’s greatest joys were found in her family. She loved shopping, traveling, and spending time with her loved ones. She cherished getting her hair and nails done and enjoyed riding and “shooting the breeze” with her husband. Above all, Mona adored being a mother and was affectionately known as “Gmo” to her grandchildren, whom she treasured deeply. She also found immense joy in spending time with her mother and sister. Mona was a private person who exemplified kindness and respect. She was a dedicated member of Rhema Harvest Church in Virginia Beach, VA for many years. She recently attended Redeemer Church in Chesapeake, VA. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she was born again, with a deep reverence for God.
She was preceded in death by her father Michael Waff and brother Michael Waff, Jr.
Left to cherish her beautiful memories are her husband Gary Tompkins, Sr.; children Cornelius “Neil” Waff, Gary Tompkins, Jr. , Malik Tompkins, Marquis Tompkins; bonus children Brittney Tompkins, Brooke Tompkins, and Johnathan Coley; grandchildren Lenni, Gianni, Sincere, Messiah, and Brielle; mother Barbara Howard , sister Michelle Nimmo, brother Brian Howard and a host of family and friends.
While we mourn her loss, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace, in the arms of the Lord. Her memory will be forever cherished by all who loved her.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
