Our beautiful, brave daughter, sister, and mother, Monne Manisilia Simpkins, was born on July 4, 1974, in Norfolk Virginia to Bobby and Cynthia Simpkins. Monne’s short but remarkable life ended suddenly and peacefully on Thursday February 29, 2024.

Monne spent most of her life within the Tidewater area of Norfolk,Virginia. Her education began with her attending Norfolk Public Schools and graduating from Norview High School in 1992. This type of self expression and uniqueness followed her throughout life. She had many hobbies including piano playing, motorcycle riding, a love for luxury cars and shopping. She enjoyed watching classic urban movies and listening to new and old school hip hop/rap music.

After high school, Monne furthered her educational studies at Norfolk State University, majoring in Business where she blossomed into a world wide entrepreneur. After receiving her cosmetologist and business license, she was ready to take on the world, from becoming a nail technician, to running her own business, (Bling Beads) Monne’s talents became the talk of the town. Monne and Steve birthed four distinctive young men; Saybot, Raaye, Daheninot (Day-Day), and Malikawi (Kawi). Monne found so much joy in being a mother. Monne's benevolent nature and strong beliefs touched the lives of countless people including her children. Her ability to speak life into someone using her holistic nature was unmeasurable. She truly believed in the power of words and the perspective in which she saw the world. She immersed herself in her spirituality, while dedicating her time to becoming an activist for so many things. Monne was a sweet, compassionate person, honest with strong moral principles, and a woman with impeccable integrity. She had a powerful mind with strong convictions.
