Otha Allen Obituary

OTHA DARNELL ALLEN

 

Entered this realm into a physical body on Tuesday June 20th 1950 God sent that baby boy into the lives of the late Charles "Bunk" Reed and Mercie Allen(Savage) being young parents they would need help and God felt Otha would need a village so he called in his Grandparents the late Frank C. Reed & Delphine Snead Reed to raise him as their own in the family village 

WHO IS THAT MAN WITH THE GENTLE FACE

WHO IN HIS YOUTH KEPT A HECTIC PACE

TO PROVIDE FOR HIS FAMILY ALL THAT HE COULD

WHO WAS THAT MAN SO GIVING AND GOOD

That young man was Otha his young life began in Accomack County Va   in the church, playing as a child with with his cousins and friends but most important education a 1968 graduate of Mary N Smith HS afterward he was off to Virginia State University Petersburg Va it was there he later transferred to Virginia Tech University Blacksburg Va he then married his classmate and High School sweetheart Paulette Bailey and fathered two sons 

WHO WAS THAT MAN WHO ENCOURAGED US ALL

AND HELPED US UP WHEN WE TOOK A FALL

SPENDING A LIFETIME EXTENDING HIS HAND

WHO IS THAT KIND COMPASSIONATE MAN

It was Otha the first man of color appointed to serve on the Onancock Planning Commission

Otha was also "THE HONORABLE OTHA D. ALLEN" the first man of color elected to the Onancock town council.  

Otha was a volunteer firefighter an EMT with the Onancock Fire Department Otha  was always trying to set an example to giving back to the community through the church, working & encouraging young men through sports 

Anyone that knew Otha knew he never met a stranger after a conversation with him you were a friend  that would be adopted into the family he was an adamant fisherman by the time we left the fishing pier our family had grown from the East coast to the West coast Otha became a surrogate father a confidante as well as a counselor

WHO ALWAYS TOOK TIME TO SIT FOR A WHILE

HE WAS ALWAYS THERE WHEN HIS FAMILY NEEDED HIM THERE

WHO WAS THAT MAN WITH THE GREY IN HIS HAIR

         On Tuesday May 3rd 2022 Otha answered the voice of his Lord & Savior to climb the stairway to heaven to join the heavenly host.    

        Otha's earthly presence warmth hugs and open arms will be missed they will be replaced with cherished memories into the hearts of  his wife/Love Paulette, sons Keevin(Tabitha),Kevin(Crystal), A host of Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren,2 Sisters Yvonne Savage, Younndia Rush(Robert); (6) Brothers Larry Allen, Charles Reed, Craig Reed(Sarah),Carlton Reed(Gwen),Cameron Reed(Priscilla), Cameron Dorn, his Aunt Etta Reed Bailey, Sister in-Love Beverly James); Brothers in-Love Louis Bailey,Kenneth Bailey Gregory Bailey(Idena),Richard Bailey(Michelle); a host Cousins and Friends. ( Preceded in death by his parents, Stepmom, Maternal & Paternal Grandparents (1)Sister, (3)Brothers )

                           

WHO IS THAT MAN WE ALL ADORE

THE MAN WHO THESE WORDS OF DEVOTION ARE FOR

WE WILL TELL YOU WITH ALL OF THE LOVE THAT WE CAN

OUR DAD IS THAT TRULY EXCEPTIONAL MAN
