Remembering the Life of

Raymond Edmonds

Raymond Edmonds, of the 3800 block of Karlin Circle in Norfolk, passed away on May 12, 2022. He was born August 10, 1940 to Owen Campbell and Eva Edmonds. He attended Norfolk State University, and played football wrestled, and ran track while attending. Raymond played in the Canadian Football League. He loved football on the field or watching on television. He acquired the name “Gray Ghost” in high school from his teammates on the Crestwood Bombers because he was so fast on the field, “Now you see him. Now you don’t”.

Raymond loved to joke and getting together with his brothers, Melvin and Luther, and nephew, William Franklin. When you see them coming, you know it’s going to be an evening of fun.

He served in the United States Army and was Director of the Boys Club in Norfolk.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Booker T. Edmonds, Joseph Edmonds, Dennis Edmonds, and Luther Edmonds; and sisters, Reva Lambert, Margaret Richardson, Sarah Franklin, and Addie Smaw.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 52 years, Betty Edmonds; brother, Melvin Edmonds (Rosa); sisters, Marian Harvey, Eva Robinson, and a host of other relatives and friends.
