Ronald Waymond Davis, 71, passed peacefully from his earthly home on July 16, 2021. He fought a courageous fight.
Ronnie/Ron as he was affectionately called by family and friends was born on May 16, 1950 to the late Barbara Davis Wilks and Herbert Lee Barnes. He was educated in Norfolk Public Schools. He graduated in 1968 from Booker T. Washington High School. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Norfolk State University.
Ronnie began his spiritual walk early in life at the Historic First Baptist Church Bute Street, Norfolk, Va. and finished his earthly journey at Bethany Baptist Church.
He enjoyed being a member of “The Golden Aides Ministry” and the Senior Choir. One of his final prayers was to become well enough to attend church service again. “Even if I have to be wheeled in, I want to be back in God’s House” he said. This prayer, like many others, was heard because he is back in “God’s House,” today!!!
Ronnie was a “people person”. He loved people and people loved him. He loved his family, with all of his heart. He was a die-hard Redskins fan who also found pleasure in solving puzzles, reading, watching…British tv shows and dining out with family and friends.
It will be almost impossible to forget his gift of gab, thirst for knowledge, ability to tell jokes, beautiful smile and heart of gold.
Ronald was employed by the City of Chesapeake as a Zone Supervisor for 32 years. He retired in 2008.
Left to cherish his memory is 3 sisters; Ms. Gloria Barnes (Chesapeake, VA), Ms. Gwendolyn Adams (Suffolk, VA), and Ms. Regina Smith (Trenton, NJ). He had 3 special cousins who assisted with his care during his illness: Mrs. Thomasine Sawyer, Ms. Wanda Dew and Ms. Vanessa Patterson. Also, 2 God children, a host of cousins, friends and neighbors.
