Son` Whitaker Obituary

Mrs. Son Hui Whitaker was born on February 12, 1949 in South Korea and was preceded in death by her parents. Son departed her earthly home on Monday October 30, 2023 after a short illness. She met and married her late husband Ernest Whitaker Jr.; no children were born to their union. Once in the states, Son lived in the Norfolk and Virginia Beach area and was a faithful member of Saesoon Presbyterian Church until her health started to decline. Son had a brief employment history as a barbershop worker and babysitter before becoming a permanent stay at home wife. Son’s passion became gardening of both flowers and vegetables and anyone who knew her, knew not to mess around in her vegetable garden! After the passing of her husband in 2014, Son moved to a senior apartment community which she loved! She gained many friends by helping them in their apartment or going to the store for them if they were unable too. Son enjoyed spending time with her friends in the apartment community and attending the parties and games they would have in the activity room. Son willingly took pride in being able to help anybody in any way that she could and would literally give her last to anyone in need!  Son was a petite, small statured woman with a kind, gentle heart, and spirit, but she still had no problem letting you know if she did not like something and wasn’t going to do something. Son had a brief illness but one thing she would tell anybody is that “she was not afraid to die and that it is God’s choice”. Son fought a great fight!

She leaves to cherish her memories her nieces: Theresa (Willie) Smith, Tawala (Robert) Taylor, Trina (Michael) Taylor, Demetre (Steven) Bazemore and Cerice Whitaker; great nephews Jadyn Bazemore, Aiden Bazemore and Michael Taylor; great nieces Jordin Taylor and Kennedy Taylor; sister-n-law Ruthie Whitaker; brother-n-law Robert (Madonna) Wyche of Greenville, S.C. and a host of friends and church family.
