Thomas Collins Brisco Sr., Tom, Daddy, Poppy, Dad, Pop, Daddy T, Uncle T, Mr. B, & Cootie, as he was known by family & friends, was one of 11
children of the late John & Lillie Brisco. Born October 28, 1939, in Eastville, Virginia & departed this life on May 27,2024 @ Sentara Leigh
Hospital in Norfolk, VA. Thomas was preceded in death by 2 Sons: Thomas Jr. (Tommy), & Wayne.
Thomas received his formal education from Virginia’s Northampton County School System. He was not a candidate for working in the hot
fields on the Eastern Shore, so he would sing “I’M SITTIN’ RIGHT HERE UNDER THE SHADE TREE WHERE THE SUN WON’T HIT MY HEAD”. Oh
yes, Cootie enjoyed singing & was a very JOKE‐ABLE person. He had a one of a kind laugh that could not be duplicated.
In the late 50’s, he journeyed to NEW YORK CITY and that was home until he retired & decided to relocate back to Virginia. Still singing, he
performed at The Apollo Theatre in Harlem, Amateur Night, & sang back‐up for such greats as Sam Cooke and the like. He just enjoyed
singing & would sing Doo‐Wop (old school) with his buddies. Standing under the streetlights in Jamaica‐Queens, N.Y., singing, is how he
serenaded, met, fell in love and married his devoted wife, Sharlene, LENA, (is what he called her). I Love U for Sentimental Reasons was his
Song for Her. On October 1, 1962, they were united in holy matrimony.
Thomas had numerous occupations through the years, but he retired from NYC Off Track Betting (OTB), after 15 years as a Truck Driver.
Being retired, he was searching for a more serene location to spend his years. And Tom & Lena returned to his birth soil and made Norfolk,
Virginia his home until God called him to his final resting place.
Retired & enjoying life, Tom became a “Jack of All Trades”. African American Emeril Chef, Bed Bound Auto Mechanic & Car Salesman. Avid
political debater of the CNN‐News channel, Or MSNBC. Devoted Sports Fan, NY METS, NY Knicks & NY JETS, be it Baseball, Basketball, Football,
Golf, any Ball, Tom was right on it. Not to mention the “best” Bid‐Whist player of all times. Daddy, Poppy, Daddy‐T, Unc’, Pop, Tom, or Brisco,
will be sorely missed for his counseling & advice. If you had a problem, call him on his cell, & if he didn’t have a solution, he would surely
research it & get back to you. So, HATS off to Tom, who always wore his baseball cap on backwards. Kango for dress down events but was razor
sharp when he wore His wide brim, slightly bent to the side, for more formal dress.
Tom was always the life of the party with his signature dance, a party you say, ok, Bushel of Crabs on the way! Compliments of Unc’.
