Wanda Mason Obituary

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith…”  2 Timothy 4:6-8

Wanda Yvette Mason, Our Beloved Sister, Aunt, Cousin and friend was called home from her labor to rest on June 2, 2020.  Wanda was the fourth child born to the Late Fred, Sr. and Hazel Mason in Accomac, Virginia on January 30, 1960.  She was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Gibson and Zelma Kelley and her brother Daron Mason.
Wanda was educated in the Accomac County Public School System.  She graduated from Onancock High School in 1978 and went on to attend Norfolk State University.  She received her license to become a LPN and created a career in nursing, attending to the needs of her patients.
Wanda accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at a young age at her family church, Macedonia A.M.E.
Wanda dedicated her life to helping others. Her bedside manner, infectious laugh and ability to put a smile on her patients face was priceless.  Always willing to work extra hours and go above and beyond the call of duty.   Wanda worked at various nursing homes, dialysis centers and chicken processing plants.
Wanda never birthed any biological children but she was a mother to all of her nieces and nephews.   Always teaching the “facts of Life”, giving her hardcore opinions, needed discipline and being their “ride or die” partner.   Aunt Wanda as she was affectionately called always knew how to get a party started.  We could always count on her to have a succulent breakfast or dinner prepared, a good cocktail to sip on,  incredible company and “juicy” conversations.  What everyone loved most about Wanda was her realness and ability to tell you the undying truth whether you liked it or not.  Wanda’s heart was big and she loved all of her nieces and nephews but EJ stole her heart.  He was the apple of her eye and everyone knew it.  He was the son she never had.  The one that made her melt and give in to every whim he had.
Wanda was a true friend/cousin to the end.   She always made sure to make time for the “3 Amigos” as she named Doretha Conquest, Angie Topping and herself.   This trio were always together laughing, loving and celebrating life together.  You typically didn’t see one without the others as social events and gatherings.   They loved each other tremendously and now the trio is a duo, keeping the spirit of Wanda Mason alive.
Wanda was many things to many people but to Fred Mason Jr., she was his baby sister.   The person he talked to two to three times a day.  Wanda enjoyed her talks with her big brother. It was actually a highlight of her day.  She enjoyed the yearly family vacations where they would spend a week in North Carolina, and the brother/sister trips to Vegas.  She looked up to her big brother and enjoyed the time they shared.
Wanda fought many battles including high blood pressure, heart disease, and Covid19.  But she could not fight the call of God.  When God whispered softly, come unto me, a new angel entered into the heavenly gates on June 2, 2020.
Our humorous, vibrant, energetic, caring, and passionate Wanda Yvette Mason leaves a legacy filled with exuberant memories to her brother, Fred Mason Jr.; Sister in law, Jennifer Mason, nieces and nephews, Ernest Quander, Angelia Gibson-Ayres, Albert & Nathan Gibson, Fred Mason III, Eddron, Deidrion & Zelmayia Kelley, Marcus & Tamika Mason, Troy Givens, a host of great nieces and nephews, the “2” Amigos, Doretha Conquest and Angie Topping, buddy, Edward Needam, loving family, friends and a special friend
