William Linwood Brooks, Jr., was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on June 24, 1950, to the late William L. and Dorothy S. Brooks. On Friday morning, November 24, 2023, he went home to be with the Lord.
At the age of five, William moved with his family to Tidewater Park where he had many friends to whom he was affectionately known as Buddy Boy, Buddy, and Jap. He attended Norfolk Public Schools after which he worked in maintenance in the Norfolk public school system as well as Norfolk State University. He loved listening to music and riding his bicycle all over Norfolk.
In May 2013, William experienced a severe stroke that left him partially paralyzed. He spent the last ten years of his life at Waterside Health and Rehab Center in Norfolk and was known by everyone there as “Breezy.” He enjoyed roaming the halls in his wheelchair and visiting the rooms of other residents. While in the nursing home, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, under the ministry of Pastor Linwood Welch. He loved attending church services on Wednesdays and Sundays. He would lift his hands and shout aloud, as he worshipped and praised God.
William was predeceased by his sister Sharon Smith and her husband who was his best friend, Neno Smith, and brothers Albert Brooks and Michael Brooks. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter April Parham, sisters Gloria Johnson (Charles), Phyllis Barnes and Iris Roach; and brothers Kenneth Brooks and Tony Brooks (Vivian) and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
William was loved by God, family, and friends. And, while he may not be with us in body, he will always be with us in spirit for his memory will live on in our hearts.
