William Derrick McCord Jr. was granted his angel wings and went to be with our Lord on March 29, 2026. He was born January 1, 1932 to the late Crozier Arnold McCord and William Derrick McCord Sr., both of Cairo, Georgia. He was predeceased by his son, William Derrick McCord III and one sister, Carolyn Mays of New York.
William completed his education in Cairo and graduated from Washington High School in Grady County in 1946.
William joined the United States Army after graduating and retired with the rank of Sgt. 1st Class and went on to work at Aetna Insulated Wire Company.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie H. McCord, daughter of the late Martha and Colonel Lee of Virginia Beach; and sister-in-law, the late Mary Parrish of Norfolk; his son, Colonel McCord (Tony) of Las Vegas; daughter, Wilma McCord of Norfolk; nieces Denise Mays of North Carolina and June Mays of New York; nephew, Walter Mays of New York; cousins, Jesse, Samuel and David Bell; nieces, Carolyn Creekmore of Florida, Shaniqua Sturgis, Terica Sturgis of Chesapeake, and Bianca Sturgis of Hampton; as well as a host of family and friends.
