William Spencer Obituary

William Lawrence “Duke” Spencer, 67, of Norfolk, Va., entered into eternal rest at Sentara Leigh Hospital on July 3, 2022. Surrounded by his loving family, “Duke” passed from this life bound by time into eternal life with a hopeful smile on his face. With his eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of his faith, “Duke” gained his final reward. He opened his arms and heart to so many with kindness and love. He never met a stranger.
On August 20, 1954, in Norfolk, Va., William L. Spencer was born to the late Georgia A. Spencer and William Lawrence Freeman. He attended Norfolk Public Schools and received his high school diploma in the United States Army, where he also served twelve years in the Military. Duke was a master carpenter specializing in flooring. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, crabbing, and entertaining with his family and friends, especially Blind and Banks. Not only did he love to cook, but he also loved to eat. Duke loved to visit his friends, sit out, exchange stories, and have a good time fellowshipping. From a child, he always had a special love and affinity for dogs. “Man,” as he was called by his mom, sister, and very close friends, enjoyed the good times of his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son William Lawrence Spencer, Jr. (“Lil Man”).
He will be deeply missed by his family, Daughters: Ms. Ambritt Spencer and Mrs. Angela Spencer-Simmons (Jason Simmons, Sr.), Grandchildren: Ms. Markeshia Spencer, Master Jason Simmons, Jr.,
Sister, Mrs. Gayle Spencer-Ridley, Nephews: Dr. James Justin Ridley, Mr. Antwain Salaam, and Mr.Labeeb Salaam, Jr., Former Wife,
