“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord; and he delighteth in his way.” Psalm 27:3
On Sunday July 4th, 2021, God called to rest Deacon Willie James Mock, our beloved husband, dad, brother, grandfather (Papa), uncle, and friend.
Deacon Mock was born to the late Jeffery Mock and Mattie Lou McClendon on October 29, 1933, in Climax, GA. He attended the Climax Public Schools. Soon after graduation he married his sweetheart, Dorothy G. Mock. From that union two sons were born, Curtis J. Mock and Marvie "Joe" Mock.
His family then moved to Morristown, New Jersey. Once settled, Deacon Mock opened his own business, Mock Janitorial Cleaning Service. His business provided services to Schenck, Price, Smith & King Counsellors at Law in Morristown until he was ready to retire.
Deacon Mock attended the Morristown Church of God in Christ for all Saints under the leadership of the late Superintendent Gorden A. Rogers. He was an active member serving on the Deacon Board, Usher Board, and singing in the Men's Choir.
His favorite hobby was gardening. He would have a large garden every year growing lots of everything that can be planted. Family members remember helping to dig up potatoes that they thought grew on vines. He taught them a lot about gardening and about life in general. He loved to share what he had grown with his family, the saints, and friends. Every day you could find him in his garden wearing his straw hat, flannel shirt and rubber boots. He said gardening was his quiet time when he talked to the Lord.
In 1993, wanting to spend retirement life close to his family, Deacon and Mother moved to Virginia Beach, VA. He loved his family and always saw that they had what they needed.
He became a member of the Garden of Prayer Temple in Portsmouth, VA, under the leadership of Bishop L. E. Willis, Sr. and Bishop L. E. Willis II. He was an active member, serving on the Deacon Board and as President of the Male Usher Board. He loved his church, Bishop, First Lady, and all the saints.
Deacon Mock was preceded in death by his father, Jeffery Mock and mother Mattie Lou McClendon; brother Jimmy Lee Walker and two sons Curtis J. Mock and Marvie “Joe” Mock.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: a loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Dorothy G. Mock; three grandsons: Stephen G. Mock (Tenicia) of South Korea, Jason E. Mock, and Darren J. Mock both of Virginia Beach, VA; one granddaughter, Brittany A. Mock of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters: Annette Parker Thompson, and Cloretha Walker both of Morristown, NJ; sister-in-love, Mary Walker of Morristown, NJ; and daughters-in-love, Carrie Mock and Patricia Foreman of Virginia Beach, VA.
He was blessed with four great grands: Xavier and Kierra Mock of Lancaster PA, Gavin Mock of Virginia Beach, VA and Cam'ron Mock of South Korea; two nephews: Anthony Parker Sr, Bobby Walker; three nieces: Renea Parker, Yvette Parker, and Beverly Able; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
