Yelando James, affectionately known as “Pookie,” passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 25, 1971, to the late Carolyn James Fuller and Benjamin Fuller.
In addition to her parents, Pookie was preceded in death by her daughter Andreaya Studivant, brother Lamont Weatherly, and maternal grandparents Elizabeth Knox James and Linwood James.
Pookie attended Norfolk public schools, graduating from Booker T Washington High School. She had a real passion for her cats and her favorite football team, the New York Giants. She truly enjoyed having friends over for cookouts and her famous soul food menus. Most of all, though, she loved cooking and taking care of the love of her life, Andre.
She leaves to cherish her memory her lifelong partner Andre Studivant, brother Devone Weatherly, bonus children Jevon Barnes, Breon Barnes and Andre Barnes, extended family Joyce Stevens, Lakecia Stevens, Ernest Weatherly and special aunts, Veronica Handberry and Tina James.
Pookie was very much loved by family and friends. And, while she may not be with us in body, she will always be with us in spirit for her memory will live on in our hearts forever.
