On September 20, 2017, Marion Edmonds obediently answered the call of her heavenly father and departed to paradise while resting peacefully at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital.
Marion was born on February 6, 1946 to Samuel and Ira Gaskins in Painter, VA. She was school in Accomack County Public Schools culminating in her graduation from Mary N. Smith High School. She went on to graduate with a degree in Elementary Education from Norfolk State University. during this time, she met and married Arthur Edmonds and began her teaching career in the Norfolk Public School system. She returned to the Eastern Shore in 1978 after accepting a teaching position as special education teacher at the now Mary N. Smith Middle School, a position she would hold for the next twenty-seven years until her retirement.
Marion was a God-fearing woman who was actively involved in the church throughout her life. She was a long time member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she was a member of the during a portion of her time there. Upon moving to Norfolk she continued to worship at various churches throughout the Hampton Roads area.
In retirement, she enjoyed reading, music, shopping, spending time with family, and her guilty pleasure of watching reality television. Also, her passion for educating youth never waned as she continued to substitute teach for a time in the Norfolk Public School system.
Marion was a loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend to all in her circle. She was passionate in her beliefs, a straight talker, and always ready with a dose of humor. She was one of kind and genuine as they come. 
She was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Ira Gaskins, two sisters, Thelma Jones and Emma Spady, and three brothers, Samuel Gaskins Jr., Norman Gaskins, and Lester Gaskins. Marion's life is celebrated by one son, Patrick Edmonds, five sisters, Catherine Hubbard, Ann Head, Sophie Reynolds, N. Beatrice Jones, and Iva Jeffrey's, and two brothers, Roger Gaskins and Russell Gaskins, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
